431 6th Street South-Winsted, MN-Ph #: 320-485-2316

As a part of our 2016 Annual Theme, the McLeod County Historical Society would like to invite you  and your family for a Historical Tour of the Winsted Fire Station and the original Winsted City Hall that housed the first Fire Fighting equipment used by volunteers in the 1890s.  The Tour will begin at 2 pm at the current Winsted Fire Station, located at 431 6th Street South, with volunteer fire fighters leading a tour of their facility and equipment and the history of that facility.  From 3-4 pm, the tour group will meet down by Winsted Lake to take an outside tour of the historic Winsted City Hall, located on 1st Street North, and hear how an early fire almost destroyed the entire downtown area in 1886.  This early fire, like many in early McLeod County Communities, became a driving force in the development and growth of the Winsted Volunteer Fire Department.  We will take a tour of the now newly renovated City Hall building and get a special treat from the Crazi Coffee Shop & Bakery located in the old City Hall building.  We hope you will join us for our Historical Tour and learn more about Fighting Fire in McLeod County!
