Acoma Township Lost Towns:

The Lost Town of Cedar City…

Founded: 1857 ???

Location: In the North West Corner of Acoma Township.

Not much information is known about Cedar City. It was located on Cedar Lake in the northwest comer of Acoma Township.  It is not known what Cedar City looked like. As far as we know there are no pictures or other information about the settlement.

Daniel Avery Cross was one of the first settlers in that part of McLeod County.  He arrived in a covered wagon in the spring of 1857 and in the fall of 1857, built a cabin in Cedar City. His family moved to a homestead in Meeker County in 1859.  While living in Cedar City, two children were born. Mary Cross reportedly was the first white child to be born in McLeod County. She was born at Cedar City, Acoma Township on April 12, 1858.  Daniel Cross, her father, was killed by the Indians on September 23, 1862 near Cedar Mills, while on a scouting expedition.
