Bringing Books To Life

“Native American Legends & Beliefs”

Partnership of  the McLeod County Historical Society & McLeod County Libraries -

Funded by the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Library Legacy Fund

The Museum is happy to announce our second year of the Bringing Books to Life program series.  Last year we took three stories of 1850’s era American pioneers and used historic artifacts from that time to help the audience gain a better understanding of the pioneer experience, and bring the story or book to life!

This year the McLeod County librarians have picked three books that focus on the unique religious stories of the plains Indians.  Minnesota has been home to many different tribes of Native Americans, with the Ojibwa in the North and the Dakota in the South, just to name two.  This series of books looks at the legends and beliefs of the Dakota and Lakota or Sioux.

In each of these programs the costumed presenter will highlight readings that give historical and cultural significance to the artifacts and help to communicate the meaning of each artifact presented.
