Lost Towns of McLeod County Tours:

Through the years, McLeod County has seen many pioneer settlements flourish, to only later decline and fade away.  Thirty different villages and towns in all have shared this fate, each with it’s own unique story.   The McLeod County Historical Society and Museum invites you to explore the stories of many of  these settlements and learn more about lost, but not forgotten, McLeod County History.

The Museum has broken our Lost Town tour into a Northern and Southern tour that can be done in a days trip.   Our presenter can guide a tour group as a caravan or hop on a tour bus for a day trip.  Tour packages start at $50 with total costs depending on number of sites interpreted, number of guests attending the tour and the purchase of historical sites guides.  Contact the Museum for tour date availability and total tour costs.

Northern Lost Town Tour Sites:

Harmony, Clear Lake, Fremont, Sherman Station, Brush Prairie, St. George, Koniska or McLeod, Bear Creek, South Silver Lake

Southern Lost Town Tour Sites:

Franklin, Sundown or South Station, Penn Cheese Factory, Fernando, Collins, Karns City, Lake Addie, Sumter
