The McLeod County Historical Society and Museum were very proud to showcase the 7th Grade History Projects and Historical Character presenters again this year. We had 93 total student projects that were on display this year in the Museum’s Educational Media Center through May and two brave young men who researched and took on the persona of a figure from history. These projects are packed with creativity and content. Each year a committee from the Museum’s board of directors reads and ranks each of the projects, awarding them points for their work. From each of the two social studies classes that participate, only the top three in each class win a cash prize. This year a portion of the prize money will be funded by Citizen Bank & Trust Co. of Hutchinson. We thank them and past sponsors of the 7th Grade History Project Winners for their support of history education. The Museum will be presenting two 1st place $75 winners, two 2nd place $50 winners and two 3rd place $25 winners for the best projects. We will also be awarding 1st place, $75 winner for the best historical character presentation. All the awards are given out at the Museum’s Annual Meeting in October. The winning projects, shown below, will be on display at the Museum until the Annual Meeting. The Museum is thrilled to be able to work with the local Hutchinson middle school staff, Mr. Schmidt and Ms. Mohr, to help these kids earn extra credit for their class, some extra cash for our winners and most importantly a life long love of history!
